How to join

Hi, I get lots of emails from people wanting to join so thought I'd make this page.

There aren't any criterias, age groups or rules*. We're a laid back group of about a dozen people who meet every three weeks or so to discuss the last book we've read, and to vote on what to read next. Just come along with a suggestion and a convincing argument of why we should read your book.

The discussion is informal and free flowing - it really depends on the book, whether we hated/loved it and how much we've had to drink. Occasionally authors come along as well, and I usually remember to warn everyone beforehand**

We've read everything from graphic novels to the classics to modern novels to trashy thrillers. Anything and everything - you can see all the books we've read on this blog (since 2005), and all the books we've voted on as well.

We usually meet in Mango Landin which is about 5 minutes from Brixton Tube. We sit in the far corner by the bar or in the garden if the weather's lovely. Just look out for the people with the books. Meetings start at 7.30ish although don't worry if you're late, I usually am.

There is no fee to join, but we're supporting the  Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) and are trying to fundraise enough money to have a book turned into to talking book. If you like our book group please make a donation on our justgiving page.

£500 pays to record a children's book (like Harry Potter and The Philosopher's Stone) in unabridged form, £1,000 pays to record an adult book like Pride and Prejudice) in unabridged form and £1,500 pays for us to transcribe a book into braille.

You can subscribe to this blog where details of our meetings and the books we read are posted. There are nice pictures too. We won't spam you or sell your email address to gangsters.
